Nacionalidad de la Isla

El gobierno de la isla ha cambiado las reglas del juego para todos los inmigrantes wanabe "islenhos". Si cada vez es mas dificil y cada vez te ponen mas piedritas en el camino. La ultima jugarreta comienza justamente el dia de hoy, si los wanabes tendran que prensentar ahora un examen sobre "britishness", un examen que ya ha sido criticado por el tipo de preguntas algunas demasiado estupidas y ni los mismos nativos las podrian contestar correctamente.

La BBC hizo un mock test en su website y tambien abrio un foro sobre este tema, he aqui algunas opiniones:

Being British is simple! Get as drunk as you can on the weekend or weekday for that matter. Go to football matches and cause trouble, especially when abroad. Claim to be a multicultural society, but look down on other cultures. Be arogant about the nations history, but no nothing really about! And last but not least claim to be one of the best countries in the world, when really we are on a sliperly slope to second rateness!!

I love Britain with all my heart and plan to move back to Bristol from the States as soon as I'm finished with my undergraduate studies here. But coming from foreign parents, I feel that I'm not considered British by my countrymates, and although I was raised in England and consider her my home, I doubt I'll ever be welcomed as completely British. This is something I hope will someday change, because even Americans welcome you as their own once you have an American accent.

The test is a JOKE, my husband is 'British' and he's got 6 right. I am a 'new immigrant' but i've got 11 right (out of 14)! Funny, 'innit'?

I feel ashamed to be british because of the double standards it says it has ruled with in the past and now fails to correct. In fact the now is just the same as the past but with diffeent excuses. In the past it was excused under religious dogma of saying the natives must wear clothes, today it is that terrorists must be suppressed. The reason is the same and that is greed with humanity thrown in as a palliative..

I couldnt agree more with what someone previously said concerning passing a simple exam in order to get British citizenship. Sitting for an exam and passing it, doesnt necessarily mean that the person will lead a British way or life nor even integrate in this society. See a good example: all the suicide bombers of 7/7 were British citizens.

This is possibly the stupid test i have ever done in my life! i just did it and scored 3!! Now i know i live in N.Ireland, but i consider myself british and as a British person some of those questions were just daft!! Dog collar questions? Are these questions made up on a Saturday nite down the pub. People looking to come into the country will think its full of clowns.

I am very sceptical about this test. The test must be entirely learned from a book called Life in the United Kingdom: A Journey to Citizenship which is available at £9.99 from TSO. Since the book does not in any way correlate to reality, applicants will need one in order to pass. At 139,315 applications a year (IND figures) multiplied by £9.99, this rakes in a whopping £1,391,756.85 for the Treasury per year. Ker-ching!

Perhaps given the way British culture has declined in the last ten years I would suggest instead of english history that you make anyone wanting British citizenship to:-
Prove they can drink 10 pints of Carling
Hang a flag of St George off their car aerial
Prove they can start a fight without provocation
Look good in a tracksuit & burberry hat
Projectile vomit off a moving train

I am of Asian heritage having lived in England all my life. However the term British or English is very interchangable, whilst in Europe working I was addressed as an Englishman and in England British.
In England I would never be (so far anyway) known as English only British, but I speak with a perfect accent and know of no other life other than that in England.
Does 'English' mean white? Maybe..

I note that you have a picture of Fish & Chips at the top of the test - implying that this is a 'British invention' - however fish & chips were brought to the UK by Jewish immigrants from Portugal & Spain! when they were escaping persecution in the Netherlands - Funny how things can be British if we chose to ignore history!

Call me cynical but I think it's just another money spinning exercice.
The trivia-pub-quizz type questions are ludicrous.
And as an atheist I find offensive to be expected to answer questions about religion. since when do you have to be christian to be British?
An Immigrant should not be expected to know more or do more than a citizen by birth, only the same. A test that most British would fail and an oath that many would refuse to take is unfair and discriminatory.

It seems to me that we have begun to abandon the statesperson persona that we held for quite a while now, and what for? Drunken, yobbish behaviour and failure. Where has Britain gone?
The answer is down the toilet. I feel ashamed to call myself British. We are becoming a nation of fools and violent loons, e.g. who is it that starts the majority of the fights at foreign sports occasions? The British. Talking of which, when football (and cricket) are on TV, I always support the other side.

I came here to work from India in '97. Now I have been living here for 8 yrs working and paying the tax and other things. I took the sample test on bbc y'day and got 13 out of 15. some of the questions are ridiculous. there are questions about father chirstmas - what is it got to do with britishness!!

Many people who are born Brits cannot answer the questions so why should those wanting to become citizens have to?
The test should either be made compulsory for all citizens eg make it part of the application process for a passport or it should be scrapped. As it stands, it's discriminatory and a waste of tax-payers money!

Why must we always group ourselves? I don't care for nationalities, in an ideal world we would all get along as people. I know this is a dream that will never happen because there are the small minded majority who refer to the 'us' and 'them' scenario. I work in Boston and constantly hear xenophobic comments regarding Portugese simply because they aren't 'British'. It's pathetic that we can't think of an individual.
